Disney - The Company

I must admit, I've spent the bulk of my career trying to get back to Princess as a Pianist/entertainer, and I find myself in the position of, perhaps not needing to do that. It's only been 2 weeks, and into my third, but I'm seeing that Disney is not just another Carnival at all. That's what most of us think, looking from the outside. Actually, Disney really would better be described as Crystal Cruise Line, with children as part of the demographic. It's really the last thing I was expecting. The work is challenging, and you really need to stay at the top of your game, but an artist wants that extra drive towards excellence. And I must say, Disney provides that push. Not in a bad way. Here are some examples.

They tune the ships pianos every week. I don't know if even Crystal does that anymore, although I can't say for sure. No other line does, not even my beloved Princess Cruise, since the Carnivalization of that line. And Pricess used to be the ruler against which all other cruise lines were measured, entertainment wise. Here's another example:

I used to have to stay up to 4 AM everynight when all the guests were asleep in order to do my daily practice routine. Here, my room
(the Gig) is accessible to me and other staff, but closed to the public, so I'm in the unusual but pleasant position of being able to practice during the day. It ALMOST makes me feel like I'm a day person. (Almost - I'm still a performer, after all.) Disney takes entertainment very seriously, and so do I. This seems like a very good match. They seem to be trying to treat me very well, and I'm trying very hard to return the favor by being, and maintaining, excellence in my performance skills.

Disney Cruise Line - Who knew? Something tells me that everyone knew but me...
